TPWF wants to end bear bile farming

The Perfect World Foundation has supported Animals Asia in their work to stop bear bile farming and help rescued bears. Bear bile is mainly used in traditional medicine in Asia, but also in many ordinary household products. To extract the bile, more than 10,000 bears are kept on bile farms in China and 1,200 in Vietnam.

There are a large number of effective herbal and synthetic alternatives to the bear bile, but despite this, bile is still a high demand product. Bile is extracted from the bears through various painful, invasive techniques which all cause massive infections in the bears.

The lives of farmed bears are truly disgusting. They are kept permanently in cages which sometimes are so small they cannot turn around or stand on all fours. Some bears are caged as cubs and never released. They can be caged for up to 30 years where they are starved and dehydrated!

With the support of TPWF, Animals Asia can operate bear sanctuaries where bears are rehabilitated and cared for and where our bear teams gather vital evidence of the effects of bile extraction. They can continue their work to reduce the demand of bear bile, work actively to stop the bile trade, increase public awareness and engage with government authorities, public representatives and policy-makers in China, Vietnam and internationally to build support for an end to bear bile farming.

So what can you do to help?
